What's better than a random sample? SEVENTY ONE random samples!
For the Random Sample Challenge (https://fawm.org/forums/topic/10959/) I decided to use my Korg Volca Sample. I loaded it up with 71 random samples from Freesound (using this website, https://hisschemoller.github.io/volca-freesound/) and wrote a small song with it. The harmony was created by pitching one of the sound samples to make a bass line.
(Why 71? The Volca Sample can hold up to 100 samples, but it's memory is limited and was full after 71 samples.)
The song is based on an idea that I had where after you die you meet with your first love, and you tell them everything you've lived since you were apart, reuniting and finally resting. Going full circle. Returning after a long road.
Tell me all the things you’ve seen Places where you’ve been It’s been so long my darling You told me you wanted to be free There was so much to be I let you roam away And now you’re back where you belong What took you so long? Sit here next to me And tell me of every pain you’ve had Every day you were sad I know it hurt like hell And tell me of all the love you got The good things that life taught And everyone you’ve met Cause life is a blessing and a curse Good things that turn for worse But also good things Cause life is a blessing and a curse Good things that turn for worse But also good things Good things

Random sample music is super fun. Always a good time to mess with found sounds and turn them into something interesting.
This is such a great concept, and a great delivery. The bass sample really grounds this, but there is enough space for the vocals to really take the centre stage. I especially like the ending 'Cause life is a bless and a curse..'. It all sounds reflective, honest, but ultimately upbeat and content.
I thought the lyrics could be you singing to your dog!
Sweet lord 'n butter! That bassline is the diggity-shiggity. I'm feeling the concept of the song and the chorus is air-tight and solid. Ace arrangement. This is sooo good.
Wow, that really worked out. What a great way to take on the #randomsamplechallenge! I quite enjoyed this - especially that bassline. Great lyrics & vocal performance as well. This is indeed one of the "Good things" See You In The Shadows…
Cool concept for the song. Love how this turned out with the samples. And the vocals 😀 !
...and tell me....good things....cool music...yeah that was fun. I like you told me you wanted to be free and tell me. I'm going to listen again...enjoying this. Okay I don't know what that sample is but it adds a lot to the song. Your back where you belong...and tell me...yeah great job on this.
This has got a real low down dirty funk vibe to it. I really enjoyed it. Excellent use of the samples (I wouldn't know where to begin with all of that stuff).
Making my way through other #randomsamplechallenge tunes. I think I'm a little confused; I don't hear 71 different sounds? I like what I hear, though, and that's what counts. I like the concept of the song: meeting your first love after death to catch them up on what your life became. Not all of us would have such a pleasant conversation, though, haha
Cool... lots of samples and they do create a great beat.
So much awesome. The bass and drum samples really shine.
