The bird song

A song about the birds that live around my house

Current weather: 7°C (Sunny)

Liner Notes

Everything in this song is true. Except the little helmets, unfortunately. Also, I would never do that to any animal, because I am vegan.

Composed and played on the ukulele, since today is "World Play Your Ukulele Day".

Lyrics

There was a deer frolicking around
In my backyard today
It died a mysterious death
It was a virus — that’s what they say

I don’t know
I don’t know
I don’t know
It could’ve been me!

There was a group of birds eating
The seeds of my peafowl
They wore little helmets and marched like they’re soldiers
With their leader doing a growl

I don’t know what they say to each other
I know that they make a lot of noise
They frolic and brawl and they clap and they swirl
Inside the bowl with such a poise

There was a goose honking this morning
Just outside by the pool
He said: Honk! Honk! Honk! Honk! Honk!
Honk! Honk! Honk! Honk! Honk!
And I said: shut up you fool!

This is no place for honking at 7am
That’s what I know!
If you honk just one more time
I’ll put you inside my pillow!

I’ll take all your feathers
I’ll pluck them one by one that's what I’ll do
I’ll put you in the oven 430
I’ll cook you and then I’ll eat you

Cause this a song of a guy who’s a vegan
But his patience has a limit too

I don’t know
I don’t know what to do
With the birds that…
Frolic and call in they bark and they sing and they poop and they honk and they put on they eat all the seeds
In my house

I feel like I'm a bad person for really liking the stark contrast of a happy sounding ukulele with those dark lyrics speaking of de-feathering and broiling a goose. I've been so impressed with the creativity of everyone so far. I love that you were able to put to song the feelings of frustration with being woken up at an ungodly hour by honking birds. Well done Elesimo. Love it.

this is fun! It's like a song of observations of birds. I think the Goose verse is my favorite lol.

Hahaha! This is delightful. The uke is perfect for this and it's put my morning off to a great start. 😁

Loved geese; we kept a flock when I was a kid, and i was the goosekeeper. I stayed fond of the breeders but never got close to the ones for eating! I smile at people shouting at geese to shut up. Happened with ours. Okay, an entertaining lyric, liked the uke, the wrens, blackbirds, goldfinches, sparrows, silvereyes, New England honeyeaters in our patio would lvoe this, noisy little beggars.!

Ha! These little birds make a terrific image! Haha, and the pillow line is even more fun. This song comes to an amazing climax with that last long line! Well done for sure!

"The morning bird artillery", wrote one of my favorite authors. Funny! The vegan who (maybe) could be pushed to far 😀

Perfect ukulele song. I love the way you're described the noise of the birds, and the angry vegan who doesn't like the noise is a perfect character for a modern folk song. Very entertaining.

A modern day Alouettes, wonderful propelled by the rhythmic strumming of the ukulele Hmmm, Ukulele Alouettes (off to the A is for ABBA thread)

Awesome energy and fun in the telling of this tale. (Honk, honk - shut up you fool) Haha. Even vegans have limits - this was so much fun, propelled by the awesome uke strumming. Loved this!
