This song started with my girlfriend singing "Fly me to the moon" as "fly me to the moon and I'll play you the bassoon". I decided to write a song using only rhymes with "moon" — luckily there's plenty (https://www.rhymezone.com/r/rhyme.cgi?Word=moon&typeofrhyme=perfect&org1=syl&org2=l&org3=y)!
This song is special for me because it's the first time I do a full production with vocals. I usually will either write a full production instrumental, or quickly record a song with vocals on my phone, without middle ground.
It's also inspired by amazing FAWMers that I admire. Last year I had the chance to collaborate in person with @cnidaria, and it was a great learning experience to see how she approaches music composition. For this song I first wrote the lyrics, then I composed the song on the acoustic guitar, and only after I had a complete vision of the song I went to the computer.
The storytelling element of the song is inspired by @aeye's amazing series about the Explorers. And the vocals are inspired by @frenchcricket, who wrote some of my favorite songs for this FAWM.
I hope you all enjoy this as much as I enjoyed writing it!
I had a dream last night That felt like a cartoon I was on my way to Mars With a layover on the moon The captain wore a mask No, wait, he was a raccoon! And his friend, the flight attendant I’m pretty sure was a baboon There was no place to sit You would hop on a cocoon And for the soundtrack A girl played the bassoon — hit it! Come with me, my love I'll pick you up on the moon But please don't be late Cause this ship is leaving soon I'll buy you a ring in Saturn And sing you a happy tune And take you to the stars For our honeymoon I waited for you at the dock The ship would leave by noon I was scared you wouldn't come It was almost afternoon! I finally saw your brown red eyes And heard the call from your loon You ran quickly with your backpack Climbing up the dune You embraced me as we boarded And we left the rocky moon The ship took off so quickly That we both began to swoon Come with me, my love We have left the good old moon We’re leaving for the stars With luck we’ll arrive in June I’ll buy you a ring in Saturn And sing you a happy tune And take you to the stars For our honeymoon As we approached Jupiter We heard a very loud boom The captain fired the alarm There was panic in the saloon We looked outside the window And we saw a space balloon Big as a blue whale And sporting a harpoon It approached our ship menacingly Lead by an angry goon Followed closely by a dozen Or more in a platoon Come with me, my love Let's run back to the moon We will survive today And life is such a boon I'll buy you a ring in Venus And sing you an ok tune Let's just stare at the stars For our honeymoon But as we made our prayers In a soft hushed croon A wind blew from the west Bringing in a strong typhoon Alas we had forgotten It was the season of the monsoon! The evil attacking pirate Got dragged in his balloon Swirling hastily out of control He seemed bound to meet his doom He crashed onto a comet And was stranded as a maroon Come with me, my love Let's rescue that old goon No one deserves to die Even if they’re inopportune I’ll buy you a ring on Earth And sing you a happy tune The reward for that pirate Will cover our honeymoon Then my dream came to an end Nothing more than a lampoon A tale of ridicule Conjured by a buffoon But today I just found In the pocket of my pantaloons A small part of the reward A heavy gold doubloon! As I looked out of my window I saw familiar eyes maroon Landing a ship to pick me up It was you and the space raccoon! Come with me my love I'll pick you up on the moon But please don't be late Cause this ship is leaving soon I'll buy you a ring in Saturn And sing you a happy tune And take you to the stars For our honeymoon

Epic! Really nice production on this, Beto. I love the tune and all the little sonic surprises. The chorus is my fave!
I really like that chorus, it's catchy and so sentimental. The whole thing is really sweet too. The feel of the music really matches the story as well.
What a fun easy flowing song that resonates with all those moon rhymes. Super fun story that is very whimsical. I loved all the sound effects too that added to the story. Great job on this one!
This is really incredible, a soft pop, a lovely dream and challenge to yourself, this is truly superlative, super delicious to listen!
Love the lyrics! It is really fun to listen. One can feel you had a good time doing this!
Saw your FB post about this song and had to come listen (been a little absent from FAWM this year...). Super honored that working last December together helped you created this. Also, this is epic. Love the production. Love the lyrics. Perfect blend of dorky and poppy but with tons of heart and personality. I want more like this! Next full moon going to drink some tea out of my raccoon mug and listen to this. 😀
Fun write! The bass synth is nice glue for the epic story song.
This oozes fun. I love the "hit it" to the bassoon player. I like the idea of a layover on the moon. And the shameless multi-rhymes (especially the pantaloons). And the epic story. The vocal sounds really full and theatrical -- I haven't heard you project like this before! Great ending. 😀
Catchy, funny and highly entertaining. Has a great drive and you’ve done a great job with the breakdowns and buildups and of the sound effects are the icing on the cake.
My favorite part I'll buy you a ring in Saturn And sing you a happy tune And take you to the stars For our honeymoon Creative writing! Production is tops! Well done
great effort gone into the arrangement of this epic, love the sound effects and little musical comments. catchy chorus and i love the rhythm on honeymoon. i like the break after the dream ends then builds up again. i like the commitment of your delivery. very well done indeed, most enjoyable listen
Ha ha, love the sound effects - what a lot of effort you’ve put in to this! It was so worth it... and though you put the moon-rhyme limit on yourself, you’ve still managed to tell a compelling story! Impressive 👏🏼
Made me swoon. That beat is infectious, and with the piano it gives me a feel of Warren Zevon (one of my favorites) or maybe Andrew Gold.
I - honestly - did not know there were so many words that rhymed with moon. This is a work of genius. Fact.Well done for keeping it varied and interesting all the way through with your variations in arrangement and backing textures. Nice.
Epic indeed, and the minutes did flash by. Fun storytelling, especially with the imposed rhyme scheme. Some real clever ones in there with some fun sound effects. The musical journey helps drive things along as well as the energy waxes and wanes over the steady beat. Nice bit of drama before the last chorus.
You won me over with the racoon and baboon noises. The instrumental break was cool, I like the, "Hit it!" It made me feel cool. Then the chorus, it's really good. I'm into this. That counter melody in the right ear that comes in between the singing, that's really good. Well done. You should do more with your voice, not that I don't enjoy instrumentals, but this is totally different and your vocals are super good!
epic lyric. all the parts come together really well. can see why this is a favourite.
Oh my god, such a job, all the CB moon rhymes. But great punctuation with the raccoon chatter and BASSOON SOLO. The alarm, the explosion. This must have been fun. And a lot of work.
I like that driving beat, and the bassoon solos made me laugh! What a fun idea to do a single word rhyme scheme. It's a very sweet chorus.
