@pifie[archived] started a thread[archived] asking people to make up new music genres. I suggested:
Nihilistic Ambient: ambient music made exclusively from field recordings of silences — funerals, empty churches, and awkward silences in first dates.
I then made this song from a few samples from https://freesound.org/:

I love this concept so much. Coming back to give it a more thorough listen when I find my headphones. 😁
I'm excited for stuff like this!! it may not seem much to some people but I like this sort of thing, like the outside thinking of what music should be, and what sound can make impact in such a simple and basic way. youve inspired me!!! 😁 cool new genre you have here, may i have permission to create within this realm??
Great concept on this one. Big ambient sound scapes that take you to another place.
Actually... this made me fell way more things than what I expected! WHAT? It's crazy how this type of audio-scapes, in an age of high quality bluetooth headphones, can put you mentally and emotionally in other 'spaces'. You have been, as @phylo wrote, painting a sonic situation with one of the most unusual constructs and element music has. I think that in an age of immersive open world games, this has a coveted place for many, and something worthwhile to follow It had a visceral impact on me, KUDOS to you! It's been a pleasure to explore and listen to!
Nihilistic Ambient - OMG I love the idea of this. Beto, you're a genius. No, you're an artist painting with sound.
I had to turn up the volume to get the full effect. I like some of the pairings of sounds. The best nihilistic-ambient song I've heard all day.
What an interesting variety of stillness and quietness! This must be listened to with great regard.
Wow! I enjoyed this more than I thought I would as well 😁 Actually pretty unsettling in the headphones turned up quite loud. Who's breathing down my neck? what's that damn dog after now? oh great now its raining on top of the snow? hahaha. Oh that actually was my dog too 😁 Yeah this is excellent.
This is a fantastic concept and a surprisingly entertaining listen!
So many silences. I think the windy silence was my favorite, but it is hard to tell what I was hearing. Really neat idea.
I always admire these types of composition, as even two 'songs' of silence are never going to sound the same. I guess the obvious comparison is Cage. I skirted around him for several years, until I listened to the audiobook of his official biography. I enjoyed listening. Cheers!
Nice composition. Too bad that there’s so much background noise. 😀 Few years ago I made song entirely with air guitar & other air instruments. https://youtu.be/g1CCrWmXRm8
I LOVE that you did this! I can’t decide if this is freaky or really relaxing to listen to... as per 4’33 I also added to the performance with my own surroundings... a truly unique experience for every listener!
Very cool idea. Makes me wonder what I could do with this.
