For this FAWM I wanted to challenge myself to write 14 songs in one session, using a small portable musical instrument that I've been using more and more: the OP-Z. The OP-Z is a drum machine, sampler, sequencer and synthesizer the size of a TV remote control, and I love how it enables me to quickly sketch out song ideas and write full productions.
In addition to the OP-Z, I also used a Korg "mini kaoss pad 2S" to add some effects to the OP-Z, including reverb, filters, and distortion. During January I practiced with the OP-Z and the Korg, trying to make at least a song per day.
I used Titular (http://muse.fawm.org/titular) to generate the titles for the songs, and it really helped my creative process since I tried to interpret the seemingly random titles. For "I call forget" I tried coming up with a slow melody that stopped, as if the player had forgotten the song.
I livestreamed my session to YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YnyxxMnXpA) in case anyone is interested in seeing the workflow with the OP-Z.

It really is impressive what can be done with this instrument. This was a very delicate tune. Simple but also had a lot of depth.
This is beautiful, I love the space that is left between the notes that really allows you to appreciate the melody and everything going on in the song. Nice job building on the song as it goes on.
Really liked this - there's a fluid, echo-y, underwater-ness about it. The tempo is an antidote to the rush and tumble of the news, the stresses, the daily noise. Music like taking a deep breath. Refreshing!
This is beautiful in its simplicity. I love the slowly interweaving lines. That underlying electric piano ish sound is so lush and the slow build is wonderful. This is soundtrack quality material - very contemplative. Awesome song
This one reminds me of some of the Minecraft music, quiet and slow and contemplative music to kill creepers by. Really like how the drum comes in the middle there.
This is really beautiful. I'm sorry to not have anything new to say about it than has already been said.
Kaoss* damn autocorrect
A friend of mine uses an OP1 and I love the chaos pad! Really cool restraints you put on yourself this year. I live building a box to work in. I feel it can really feed creativity to have limits to press. This sounds awesome and builds quite nicely. Well done!
Nice clear tones. Very pleasant to listen to.
I'm definitely going to be checking out that YT link. This is a great little listen. I'm looking forward to listening to more of your stuff and SO MUCH came out last night already 😁
