Gentle eyes

A song about sloths

Current weather: 7°C (Sunny)

Liner Notes

"Slothcore: very slow (like 20 - 40bpm), dirty & with long pauses to simulate naps. Perfect music for that overworked college/university student in your life."

I wrote the first #slothcore song on my second day of FAWM, and the genre created by @candle[archived] quickly took off, with more than 30 songs as of today. After listening to all the great ideas and seeing how the genre is evolving I wanted to give it another try.

This song is called "Gentle eyes" because it's about sloths. I wrote it using my OP-Z, and since the lowest tempo on the OP-Z is 40 BPM I recorded my performance to cassette tape and played it back at half speed to get it to 20 BPM, together with some tape saturation and hiss.

This is awesome! So minimal and simple, the vibrations bring it to a complex state with the chord changes. Those drums are awesome too! The occasional plucks bring it to a more musically explorative state. I like!!

That. Is. Slow. And dirty. The sloth is strong with this one. Well done. Very well done.

You know, I love experimenting with sounds, so I was enthused to hear how your cassette tape project was gonna sound. I gotta say, this is definitely a really excellent example of Slothcore.

Very nice, like a car engine motor joined a band on stage, just chugging along and adding that deep hum, like the drums as well!

★ This Is My Favorite Slothcore Song ★ File under: space docking sequence, space accident sequence, coming-out-of-hibernation sequence. Excellent choice on the slowed cassette and tape treatment.

slothcore stuff is pretty fun to listen to this year. A made up genre taking over the fawm airwaves!

Suitably gritty and vintage sound. That bass thump is simple, but I find it to be very beautiful. You've really captured those little guys essence perfectly here.

Really cool mixture of digital and analog with the cassette tape! That's something missing from a lot of modern music production. I think the title you picked fits the vibe of the track perfectly.

Enjoying this! The low tempo beat is very interesting, its steadiness is blurred somehow. There is a sad feel in your melody, but your sound treatment evokes a purring, and it craddles me. Well done! =^.^=

Slothcore. 😀 I think you nailed it. It's incredibly slow. Perfectly slothy. It's like listening in slow motion. It's kinda hypnotic. I like the vibration of the synth and the drums that give it some texture.

Oh this is so smooth. And that piano bringing more athmosphere. I love the sounds in this one.

Absolute genius move with the cassette tape. I loved this so much. #slothcore is filling a Lynchian void in my life.

Strangely soothing for me. Like Rothko colors fading into other Rothko colors.

Really great drones here, the half speed tape is a really nice touch. I also like the crunchy beats in here.

i totally want to steal this record-at normal-speed-and-playback-at-half trick for another slothcore piece this FAWM! this has a really nice vibe to it. i've also been curious about the OP-1 and OP-Z for some time, but haven't gone down the teenage engineering route (except for one pocket operator, which I don't really use)... but this makes me more curious...
