Liner Notes

Here is four-track tape #14, mailed around the country to 4 participants who each added a part (https://fawm.org/forums/topic/8620/).

Tape 14
Track 1 - @nancyrost[archived] (clav)
Track 2 - @bachelorb[archived] (guitar)
Track 3 - @pearlmanhattan[archived] (bass)
Track 4 - @elesimo[archived] (lyrics, vocals)

@elesimo[archived]: "I received the tape and the song was pretty much solid and mixed. I listened to it, wrote some lyrics inspired by an Easter egg at the end, and recorded my track. After that all I had to do was bounce the tracks to the computer, adjust the levels and it was done! I'm proud of being part of this song."

Lyrics

Finished my smoke
And took a long look down the road
Trying not to think of those I care

As I've done so many times before this day
I'd leave without goodbye
It wasn't fair

Another day, another life
Waiting for me
Like before I'd start again somewhere

There comes a day when every man is gone
I don't think I'm there
I don't think I'm there

Are you here for me?
Are you here?
Are you here for me?
Are you here?
Are you here for me?
Is it time?

One day I know my time will come
And Death will knock on my door
I'll walk down these stairs

She'll tell me to pack my things and go
Little she knows
I travel with my hands bare

And for one last time I'll leave my home
One last trip without farewell
No time for a prayer

There comes a time when every man is gone
I hope that I'm not there
I hope that I'm not there

Are you here for me?
Are you here?
Are you here for me?
Are you here?
Are you here for me?
Is it time?

Are you here for me?
Is it time?

Amazing, obviously I LOVE that ending but the whole song is another good one - unusual first track with the clav and it has led in some excellent directions! Particularly like @elesimo's vocal and the space in the mix, very cool indeed.

THis is great, such a rich sound! Love the ending. Meow, the humming of the machines, and Nancy asking for words of wisdom. The lyric is fantastic. Not sad, but capturing our individual isolation exquisitely.

Can I just say that the 4-track concept forces some AMAZING songs? It's hard to tell why, but when we all have to build on an unknown set of of tracks, we just seem to coalesce into something that transcends the parts. I'm getting deep[, but this has such an amazing vibe - I don't think there is a way that this song could have been written alone by one person. Fantastic job people - Truly a retro gift. Loved it!!

This creates such a cool mood. I love how the guitar and bass parts brought my airy clav start down to earth. The words and vocals work really really well. Great contributions all. And thanks for keeping Van's meow in there! Timing, I tell ya. ๐Ÿ˜€

A good combination of sounds here, nice variety. Jim Morrison would dig this. I do too. Feels like a relaxed jam session.
